Modern heritage

A 200 year old property is turned into a unique, modern holiday home

In the picturesque vineyard village of Lofou in Cyprus, the Kalimaris family have found their perfect holiday retreat. With only 10 permanent residents, the village is a popular weekend getaway for families living in the nearby city of Limassol.

The property is 200 years old and protected for its cultural heritage, so no structural changes to the premises are allowed. Not that you could imagine anyone wanting to change this beautiful place. Its original features are as stunning as the view of the mountains, vine fields and the beach of Pissouri Bay.

The family contacted the BoConcept team in Cyprus and gave them the task of furnishing their vintage cottage with modern design. The style had to be clean and simple-lined, yet still keeping with the structural premises and ancient atmosphere.

Living in a stable

The living room was originally a stable that was separate from the main house, but several years ago it was integrated and has now become a warm, comfortable living space with rustic walls and dark, wooden ceilings. The stonewalls also have a built-in shelf that is the perfect spot for unique sculptural pieces.

When refurnishing the house, the team wanted to carry through the cottage style with dark-toned furniture, textured surfaces, and good quality materials. The spacious Largo sofa is covered in a dark fabric that is very soft and comfortable for lazy days. Throws and cushions in beautiful materials are essentials for the cosy, relaxing atmosphere. The old, coffee table was kept for its characteristic, organic shape.

Keep it simple

The master bedroom is relatively small and with beautiful stonewalls that help to keep to room cool at night. In respect of the original features and the purity of the property, the BoConcept team has kept the furnishings to a minimum. A big wardrobe is not an option. It would not only take up too much space but also compromise the aesthetics of the room. Instead, a bed with built-in drawers for clothing or bedding has been installed together with a nest of tables that can easily be moved around the room.
